PE Credit for Marching Band, Color Guard

Post Date: Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

On Monday night the Riverside Unified School District School Board passed a resolution to grant physical education/graduation credits to high school students enrolled in marching band, Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC), color guard, pep squad, and dance courses.

This very significant action comes after delegations from RUSD and San Diego traveled to Sacramento to petition state education officials to allow them to have local influence in allowing credit for these subjects.

The band booster board asks that parents send an e-mail to the school board, thanking them for their efforts. They have been very supportive of our band programs in the past and they deserve a pat on the back for recognizing that these programs meet physical education requirements and also play an important role in our children’s academic success.

It’s a democratic process.  It’s the right thing to do.  In fact, Ms. Brownley’s taken an oath to uphold the Constitution of the State of California and it surely says something about democracy in its many pages.  With the Fourth of July parades coming up that she will undoubtedly be riding in, I would hope she remem bers democracy as the marching bands and JROTC units join her, not to mention cheer squads and color guard.

Important AB 351 News!

From: Oscar Mooring

It is very frustrating, if not infuriating, that ONE person can block democracy!  Seems that Ms. Brownley is attempting to do just that!

If anyone has friends in or knows anyone in her district, perhaps they can persuade them to call Ms. Brownley and encourage her to let the Democratic process work!
