At the Spring Concert in May we mentioned we were working on some exciting new fundraising plans for the band and color guard programs. Part of that was our Early Pledge Drive. To those of you that made pledges, thank you! Those pledges enabled us to get an idea of our starting budget, in advance of the 2010 – 2011 season. Another part of our efforts was to make it easier for you, our supporters, to donate money.

I am very excited to share the news that the Riverside Poly Proud Heritage Band & Color Guard now accepts donations through our website. We accept most major credit cards, and PayPal! On the Riverside Poly Band Website you will see a new “Donate” button in the right sidebar, just under the Search box. This button enables our band families, and other supporters, to easily make donations to the band program.

Studies show that kids involved in music-related, or arts-related, programs do better in school – and in life. Please help by donating today.

Hello and welcome from Riverside Poly Proud Heritage Band and Color Guard booster board.

Our first general booster meeting will be at 7 p.m. on July 14 in the Poly High School band room. Please come and meet your fellow band parents and the band booster board. This is also a chance to ask questions and offer suggestions.

As a parent or guardian of a child who is involved in our program, you are automatically a member of the booster association.

Your role as an active booster is crucial to the success of our program. As boosters, we raise money to pay for uniforms, instructors and competitions. (It costs thousands of dollars to run this program and there is no financial support from the school or the school district.) Boosters keep things moving by volunteering in many capacities and we serve as advocates.

As we enter our 2010-11 season, the next few months will be very busy. We invite you to get involved.

Here are some of the many opportunities to help:

• Altering and repairing uniforms (no need to know how to sew, we will train)
• Loading and unloading the trailer before and after performances
• Helping the kids get ready for performances
• Chaperoning
• Donating water and food
• Helping to cook and serve pre-performance meals
• Pulling the trailer to and from performances
• Assisting with fund raising efforts.
• Helping with the car washes, bake sales and the silent auctions
• Providing snacks for Thursday night practices
• Asking local businesses for financial support
